Party Skirt Inspiration

Posted on: December 7, 2015 by Yummo Mummo

This is going to be a quickie, a quickie post, that is. Last week, I picked up this skirt from H&M when I was on business in beautiful San Francisco. And let me tell you – it is SO MUCH FUN to wear.  Firstly, I love the pocket position. The pockets are located towards the front of the skirt, so this ensures less bulk being added to the hips. Secondly, the print is so classy, pretty, sophisticated and fun and I love how the blue metallic shine photographs so well. Lastly, the length is just perfect for my body type.  I love anything below the knee, and something that helps me honor my hourglass/pear shape and shows my curves tastefully.

So where was I going in this fabulous skirt? To conquer the world? I certainly felt like I could. But alas, I was off to Holiday drinks and then dinner with some fellow Aussie friends, so it was 2pm and I was dressed for the night already!

The Aida Tassel Earrings by Stella and Dot. The tassel can be removed as well as a half-circle, to go shorter or tassel free. And bonus, it’s totally hassle free. Love Stella and Dot’s versatility in their jewelry. Shop this at www.stelladot.com/melissamenzies

One of my most favorite things about this skirt are the POCKETS. And front pockets take away from the chance of adding bulk to the sides/hips. BONUS in my book. Genius design, I must say.

I have paired with a vegan sleeved cream cotton knit sweater that I purchased in the Black Friday sales a year ago, from Ann Taylor. This top has wash and worn fabulously. It was a cold night, so why not add a sweater with this skirt. The list is endless actually – sequenced top, white tank, white tee, navy tank, navy tee, black tank, black tee. I would even play with a black/white or a blue/white striped tee!

Do you want the bad news or the good news? Bad first – I can’t, for love nor money, find the exact link on the H&M site to the skirt I purchased (it is currently sold in stores), although I have all the SKU numbers. Happy to pass along the numbers on my tag.  BUT the good news is that I found you an alternative through my Polyvore account. This skirt is $72 from John Lewis, which I believe is a UK brand.  I have made it into a lovely set to feast your eyes and make it affordable and accessible to shop it. See my Polyvore link HERE

  1. I love everything about this outfit! And that skirt!!! I have a vintage Dior sewing pattern with a very similar skirt… time to move it to the top of the “to make” pile! x Allison
