My MAC consultation with a MUA (MakeUp Artist)Posted on: August 18, 2015 by Yummo Mummo
I have been wanting to pick the brains of a make-up professional for quite some time now. And I was lucky enough to be gifted a chance for Mother’s Day. As a Wardrobe Stylist, I feel it’s important to have some pointers up my sleeve for clients, if asked.
MAC Cosmetics offers a 90 minute one-on-one consultation, in a private room. It comes with a mascara of your choice and 20% off purchase for a month post-appointment. The cost was $100 which I felt was VERY reasonable. You can also do in store for $50, but it’s not 90 minutes and it’s not in a private room, so I can imagine a lot of distractions around you in store.
I was not very familiar with MAC products, only through what my sister-in-law asks me to buy her and send to Australia. (It’s half the price in the USA than in Australia, I am told).
I am very willing when it comes to make up. I am open to practicing and playing and am no stranger to You Tube. I love the chance to create my version of a smokey eye on a Saturday night and you know you will NEVER find me without some lipstick on.
So while I had my make up pro, Jennifer, to myself I wanted to pick her brains on a few things:
- How to contour?
- How to create a great day eye?
- How to create a great smokey eye? (We turned day into night here)
- How to apply false eyelashes?
The session came with a mascara of choice, I chose the 3D mascara as it’s the one we used in the session so I knew I loved it. A few months later, it’s now my go-to mascara. I also purchased the false eyelashes (with my 20% off) that can be used time and time again if I care for them as Jennifer taught me.
Some trends for 2015 are curiosity on contouring, smokey eyes, and all-out make up (including false eyelashes). So it seems my instinct about what I wanted to learn was right on the money!
